There I was, an avid lifelong bookworm, who loved sci-fi and movies and television, and one day one of my friends says, "Hey, have you ever heard of fanfiction?"
And I'm all, "Huh?"
And so she explained what it was and we were both really into Stargate at the time and so she sent me some links with the wary caveat of, "Uh, so some of them are slash."
And I'm all, "What's slash?"
Hah, hah, hah. Oh, how far I've traveled down that path. The same friend, by the way, finds it deeply, deeply amusing that I have surpassed her and actually write the stuff now.
Anyway, I always dabbled in writing but never did much with it and one day decided to see if I could. So I wrote a tiny little short fic that was het, with Hermione and Fred and it was cute and light and PG and I posted it on fanfic.net with serious trepidation and anxiety. And then I got some lovely comments most of which ended with, "Looking forward to the next chapter!"
And I'm all, "Next chapter? But, but, but...it was a one shot!"
And that seems to have set the tone for my entire fanfic writing experience.
Anyhow, that was a really long, completely unnecessary way of saying that I've finally gotten around to doing a master post of all my fics :)
( MASTER FIC POST )
Hi all! I’ve been doing some traveling this past month, for various reasons, and last week I actually got to spend in Vegas on vacation (yay!). E-mail and internet turned out to be spottier than expected so I now have lots of catching up to do in terms of reading and commenting and responding to comments. I am so looking forward to catching up on Space Married *happy bounce*
Vegas was eating. And shopping. And more eating. And more shopping. With a couple of shows tossed in. And gambling. I pretty much just do penny slot machines and I fail at those (the slots, they mock me) but it was fun. Amusingly enough, the machines I did the best on were the sci fi ones (Star Trek, Stargate and Star Wars penny slots). They must have realized I was a fan :)
I don’t usually do reviews or post much on this journal but fic related stuff, but the thing is, we hit so very many restaurants and they ran the total gamut of fancy to…Del Taco, that I figured I’d give a brief run down in case anyone’s headed to Vegas in the near future.
I’ve listed them in order of price. It, uhm, is a broad range. Don’t judge me. I have been corrupted by a bunch of foodies. I excluded alcohol from the price ranges.
( RESTAURANTS )
I flailed at this. There was incoherency and flailing. Flailing!
It's gen, with awesome moments of Spock and Bones and Uhura and Sulu and Chekov, but it's mainly Jim centric and it's...awesome!
Written by (
It follows a relationship of a mentoring kind that Jim has with an older Vulcan teacher at the Academy, Sakel. Kirk knows his kindly 'uncle' Sakel from the Kelvin and the aftermath of Tarsus. Only by kindly I mean ruthless and blackmail-y in the best possible way.
Witness Kirk being blackmailed into writing a paper on Homoerotic Elements in Pre-Reformation Vulcan poetry!
Witness Kirk being driven to cussing by a most bitter betrayal, his ancient Vulcan finally managing to get Uhura hot and bothered!
Witness Bones with the awesomest country doctor talk ever!
Witness Spock wearing the fugliest hat in existence!
And, seriously, beautifully interwoven with the humor is sweetness and angst.
Dudes just go read it. It is awesome.
Summary: Epilogue to the Prison Break AU story
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Language, sexual situations
Genre: AU angsty humour
Pairing: Slash Kirk/McCoy
Words: 527
Spoilers: Not that I can spot.
Disclaimer: Characters and world are sadly not mine
Feedback: Always welcome
Sooo...this requires a little explanation. I've been working on a sequel to Four Ways Jim Kirk and Leonard McCoy Could Have Met...And the One Way They Do. Only the sequels to the four AU's are insisting on being different lengths and depths, etc. and so I've decided I'm just going to post them separately as I finish them.
The sequel to the Prison Break AU for instance wanted to be more of a short and sweet epilogue (unliked some other of the AU sequels which are insisting on being longer *glowers at them*)
So, I'm renaming what is now turning into a series into 'Glimpses of Realities' because the original title is too freaking long and a sequel titled 'Four Ways Jim Kirk and Leonard McCoy Continue to Not Meet...' is just silly :)
Why The Freak Out Now?
( “I am a space pirate.” )
It basically follows Jo from her first meeting with Kirk all the way into the future, beyond where Brightness Burns is currently at.
It's amazing and deadly and brutal. It's like a sharper alternate universe version of Brightness Burns. It's just painful to read and Joanna is so beautifully deadly and I loved it even as I was whimpering.
I say a sharper alternate universe version because as you might have notice if you've been following Brightness Burns, I've been inching ever so slowly to a happy-ish/happy-er place. Sort of. Mirror Verse style.
So if you'd like to read an au, darker take on Brightness Burns, run HERE
Summary: Sometimes Bones likes to watch Jim sleep.
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Cursing
Genre: Schmoop
Pairing: Kirk/McCoy
Words: 610
Spoilers: Not really, no.
Disclaimer: Characters and world are sadly not mine
Feedback: Always welcome!
Happy Halloween everyone! Uhm, in honor of Halloween I should really be writing something dark and scary. But I've been writing so much dark fic lately that I went in entirely the opposite direction.
So...have some Schmoop!
Restful
( Leonard likes to watch Jim sleep. )
Interesting! Don't know if people have seen this...
I think he'll make an interesting Jack Ryan. And, wow, has Star Trek been good for his career :)
Pine Beaming Up Jack Ryan Role?
Paramount Pictures has begun negotiations with Chris Pine to play CIA analyst Jack Ryan in the reboot of the franchise based on the Tom Clancy novels.
UPDATE: Paramount confirmed this story late Tuesday, and in a statement, Paramount Film Group president Adam Goodman said: "Tom Clancy created an unforgettable character with Jack Ryan. With Chris in this role, we've taken our first step in creating a re-boot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise."
Pine is positioned to topline his second Par franchise. He played James T. Kirk in “Star Trek,” the JJ Abrams-directed summer hit, and will reprise in the sequel.
Pine is separately in talks to team with director D.J. Caruso in the Paramount drama “The Art of Making Money,” early next year.
Talks are just getting underway, but Pine is expected to come aboard the Jack Ryan film as the project takes shape. The studio and producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld are working with a script draft by Hossein Amini, based on an original concept. They are still in deep development and it is unclear whether Pine would make another “Star Trek” before the Jack Ryan film. He will clearly be working often for Paramount over the next several years.Alec Baldwin originated the character in 1990’s “The Hunt for Red October,” Harrison Ford played him in 1992’s “Patriot Games” and 1994’s “Clear and Present Danger,” and Ben Affleck played Ryan in 2002’s “The Sum of All Fears.”
Pine’s repped by SDB Partners and Carrabino Management.
